Meet Kevin Bohacz, Author of Immortality and Ghost of the Gods.

3 minute read, 6 minute listen. Transcript lightly edited for length and clarity.

LINDA: Hi, this is Linda. Let's meet author Kevin Bohacz, author of Immortality, an epic techno-thrilling saga.

Immortality finds humanity threatened by an ancient and invisible threat, in the form of deadly bacteria that kills precisely and suddenly.

Kevin and I discuss the facts behind the fiction in our interview.

Kevin, thank you so much for joining us today. To start, would you mind telling me a little about yourself and your background?

KEVIN: Well, I always loved writing, but I never really thought I'd be a writer. So I began moving towards science. It's kind of a family thing. I got into engineering. And so for the first half of my life, I was very technical, very sciencey.

And then at some point, I came back to my roots.

i'm not really sure exactly at what point but i can remember one thing where, just before i wrote my first novel–Dream Dancers– I read a book by Anne Rice called Interview with a Vampire and none of my books are really like that, but I saw how she took her imagination and made it totally real for people and I wanted to do that too.

And I'd always loved writing. So I don't really know why I started, but that was the moment, I think. And I wrote my first book.

And that book was more of a fantasy and supernatural kind of thriller. It wasn't a technothriller. It had some of the, some of the more epic things in it, but it wasn't anything like Immortality.

When I was younger, I became a scientist, but I also came back to being a seeker. I was always interested in the big questions of life. And so I tried to put that into my stories.

And I did that with Dream Dancers and the publisher when they bought it they came to me and they asked me: “Are you a member of this spiritual organization?” It was like monks in Tibet or something and I was kind of taken aback and I said “You think I'm some kind of spiritual guru or something? I'm really not.” I wrote this to have fun and to get my ideas out there.

Then after that, I kind of dug into my business for a long time. I owned a technology business. I did that for, God, I don't know, 20 years. But I wrote at the same time.

And so while I owned that business Immortality came out in 2007. I sold my business in 2010.

What turned me towards techno thrillers was that I really loved to read them (although my favorite, favorite book is Dune). But Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, all those guys you mentioned.

And so I guess I was just naturally drawn into writing [a technothriller as] the second story and Immortality started out much more biological and then at some point it became more technological.

LINDA: I do want to mention, Immortality has a sequel, Ghost of the Gods. Tell us about the books that you have and the books that you have coming out.

KEVIN: Okay, well, there's just those two bestsellers [that are available] right now. There's Immortality and Ghosts of the Gods.

And then I have another two books, Artificial and Civilization, that are coming out. Artificial has already been reviewed, editorial reviews, so forth. Civilization is a little bit behind it. I'm not really sure which one will come out first. It's kind of a race at this point.

And then there's a third book, which is kind of an unusual situation, which I can't talk about much because I also do ghostwriting. I've written a lot of books out there and people don't know I wrote them.

LINDA: Oh, wow. And you're not allowed to say.

KEVIN: Not allowed to say. But with this other book, myself and the person that hired me to write this book, have kind of fallen really in love with the story it's a it's a future it's a sci-fi and it's actually kind of a it's not quite a ya but it's got it could be like ender's game where it's adults think it's an adult book and younger adults think it's in a younger adult book.

It's about disabled children. And we both fell in love with this book so much that the person that hired me asked me to be a co-author. So people will know I actually wrote this one. Out of all the dozens of books i've ghostwritten, finally one will have my name.

LINDA: Well we'll make sure to let everyone know when any of them are coming out.

KEVIN: It should be this year for all of them.

LINDA: Awesome.

Thank you again, Kevin, for joining us. And I hope everybody goes out and gets Immortality and enjoys it.
